At a logistics gate, plate recognition is a process tool before it is a security one. Every arrival and departure timestamped automatically and matched against a booking gives dwell time per vehicle, turnaround per carrier and a record of who was on site — and it removes a manual step that is both slow and unreliable at the exact moment a queue is forming.
The engineering is the same as any ANPR deployment and unforgiving in the same ways: camera angle within roughly thirty degrees of the plate's axis, shutter speed matched to vehicle speed, and infrared illumination for night reads. Heavy goods vehicles add plate height variation, so a camera positioned for cars may miss trucks entirely.
The part specific to logistics is what happens on an exception. An unbooked vehicle, an unreadable plate or a mismatch has to route to a person with a decision to make, or the gate simply blocks and the queue grows. That flow is part of the design.

Cars, trucks or both?
Plate heights differ substantially. A single camera position optimised for one may not read the other.

Gate throughput has to match the busiest period, or the queue reaches the public road.

Every system misreads. Without a defined fallback the gate becomes the bottleneck it was meant to remove.
