Perimeter detection is the application where false alarms decide everything. A fence line generates movement constantly — animals, vegetation, blown debris, weather — and a system that reports all of it trains its operators to ignore it within a fortnight. After that the system is providing a record rather than a response.

Reducing that is a matter of technology choice and on-site tuning. Thermal cameras detect people by heat regardless of light and are far less troubled by shadow and headlights than visible-light analytics; sensible zone geometry excludes the areas that generate noise; and rule tuning has to be done against the real scene across a full day-night cycle rather than configured from a datasheet.

The second design question is what an alert is for. Detection without a response path is only a recording, so the design should say what happens — an operator view, an audio challenge, a light, a patrol — and the detection specification follows from how much time that response needs.
